Appointed Times of Leviticus 23 are Statutes
“And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the LORD, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts.
Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings.
These are the feasts of the LORD, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons. In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the LORD’S passover….
And ye shall eat neither bread, nor parched corn, nor green ears, until the selfsame day that ye have brought an offering unto your God: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.” Leviticus 23:1-5, 14.
“For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain. And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.” Isaiah 66:22, 23.
Seventh-day Sabbath Depends on the New Moon
“Sabbath and New Moon (Rosh Hodesh) were both periodically reoccurring in the course of the year. The New Moon is still and the Sabbath originally was, dependent upon the lunar cycle. Both date back to the nomadic period of Israel. Originally the New Moon was celebrated in the same way as the Sabbath but gradually it became less important and the Sabbath became more and more a day of religion and humanity, of religious meditation and instruction, of peace and delight of the soul, and produced, powerful and beneficent effects outside of Judaism.” The Universal Jewish Encyclopedia, page 410.
The Wicked do not Seek the Statutes
“Salvation is far from the wicked for they seek not thy statutes.” Psalm 119:155.
Jacob and Joseph kept the Statutes
“Blow up a trumpet in the new moon in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day. For this was a statute of Israel, and a law of the God of Jacob. This he ordained in Joseph for a testimony, when he went out through the land of Egypt.” Psalm 81:3-5.
Statutes Given to Guard the Ten Commandments
“In consequence of continual transgression, the moral law was repeated in awful grandeur from Sinai. Christ gave to Moses religious precepts which were to govern the everyday life. These statutes were explicitly given to guard the ten commandments. They were not shadowy types to pass away with the death of Christ. They were to be binding upon man in every age as long as time should last. These commands were enforced by the power of the moral law, and they clearly and definitely explained that law.” E.G. White, Review and Herald, May 6, 1875.
